Family Beach Vacation Tips
- There's no better summer
destination than the seaside. For your family beach vacation this
year, here are some points to keep in mind:
- Always keep an eye on children
when they are near water, this includes pools, hot tubs, lakes,
streams and on the beach. Even if your kids can swim, they could
get swept away by strong current or a wave.
- Have your kids wear personal
flotation devices when appropriate. Such devices, however,
cannot replace parental supervision.
- Take a a course in first aid
and CPR to learn the basic procedures. This knowledge can prove
invaluable in an emergency.
- If a family member gets stung
by a jellyfish, contact a lifeguard of the beach. They are
trained in first aid procedures to ease the pain, and will be
able to call for basic medical attention if necessary.
- If the weather gets stormy on
your family beach vacation, do not continue to swim. Most
importantly, if there is lightning, you must get off the beach
immediately and seek shelter.
- Do not swim after a large
meal.
